COVID-19 Support by CIDs: Urban Space Management
Urban Space Management has partnered with the iThemba Foundation to distribute food parcels to vulnerable households in Maboneng and Doornforntein during the lockdown.
USM has also been doing special projects such as removing illegal posters on utility infrastructure, fixing damaged paving, deep-cleaning sidewalks and reinstating landscaped areas. These activities are normally difficult to do with limited manpower. The lockdown has given USM an opportunity to do the extra work in areas where they usually only do basic cleaning.
Urban Space Management has also partnered with the Hillbrow CPF to provide community based safety and security services. This model is proving to be effective in deterring crimes in the public space because the CPF are known in the area and they are visible. The CPF have also assisted in clearing the streets of loiters and with the general implementation of lockdown regulations together with SAPS.
