The Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system employs innovative construction to reshape the city’s transport landscape, while making sure commuters are safe.

The BRT system in Johannesburg is characterised by a dedicated bus lane in the middle of the road; this serves two purposes:

• Reducing traffic jams as the buses stopping does not interfere with traffic behind them; and

• Keeping commuters safe in dedicated middle lane stations, preventing large numbers of commuters clogging pavements and spilling over into road traffic during rush hour.
