The Non-Motorised Transport Project will upgrade sidewalks and cycle lanes in Rosebank and Sandton, beginning at the end of April.

The project is expected to take six months and will hopefully be fully completed by the end of the year. It will aim to promote a healthy and cost-effective alternative to public or private transport.

As part of the Johannesburg Development Agency’s Integrated Transport Plan Framework, the project will provide a safe and sustainable mode of transport.

In the long term, it is planned that all areas around Johannesburg, including suburbs and informal settlements, will all be easily accessible.

The project will begin in wards 90, 91 and 117 which spans from Victory Park and Saxonwold to Illovo and Atholl Gardens. Some of the streets which will be included in the sidewalk upgrade include Craddock Avenue, Boundary Road and Melville Road.
