Lead SA food garden
With the help of Mapitsi Holdings, who specialize in permaculture, landscaping and gardening services, Lead SA has planted a food garden on the verge of their premises and would like to challenge other companies and organisations in Sandton to do the same.
“According to a report released by the Human Sciences Research Foundation (HSRC) in August, only 45,6% of the South African population is food secure.†This is a statement by the Nelson Mandela Foundation at the launch of Mandela Day earlier this year.
There is a widely-held misconception that people who work in Sandton are ‘well-off’ and do can afford food for their families. However, if companies were to take a closer look at their own staff members, whether it be permanent staff or temps, security staff and cleaning staff, many would be surprised at the findings.
In the interest of curbing hunger in our country, Lead SA wish to share the crops from their garden with various staff members, needy organisations and individuals in and around Johannesburg. Some of the crops currently growing in the garden include:
– Spinach
– Cabbage
– Carrots
– Beetroot
– Peas
– Mint
– Lettuce and
– Spring onion
Lead SA encourages organisations to take part in the fight against hunger by having their own food gardens at the office and at home. There are various types of food gardens that one can do for almost any type of building and Lead SA will point interested organisations and individuals in the right direction.
