Eagle Ford powers traffic lights in Bramley
The Kew Action Group would like to express gratitude to the Directors John Landey, Craig Gillesen, Pieter Steyn and staff of Eagle Ford for their continuous support of the Kew Action Group (KAG) City Improvement Initiative by signing the Service Level Agreement with the Johannesburg Roads Agency.
The idea to supply power to the traffic signals was suggested by John Landey in 2019 as a result of increased loadshedding which created huge congestion at the intersection of Louis Botha Ave and Corlett Drive. The outages of the traffic signals also increased the number of accidents that occurred at the intersection resulting in longer periods of time that the traffic signals were out of order. Recently this exacerbated the situation so carjackings, smash and grabs and thefts were getting out of control.
KAG raised the request in 2019 at the Regional Visible Service Delivery monthly meeting with the municipal entities. KAG suggested to the regional manager of JRA that Eagle Ford was willing to supply power to the traffic signals. Over the years KAG kept pursuing the possibility to do this.
At the end of April 2023 KAG met with Sipho Nhlapo Head of Department of Traffic Signals, to determine the feasibility of the project. A meeting with the directors of Eagle Ford was arranged at the beginning of June 2023 and the implementation began. As an SLA with Investec had already been signed in the Sandton Central Management District, the process in the KAG precinct went smoothly. The Signing Ceremony with MMC Kenny Kunene, acting CEO of JRA Zweli Nyathi, acting Regional Director Fofo Pooe and CFO of Eagle Ford Pieter Steyn was held on 11th of October 2023. Tebogo Mogoshoa of JRA facilitated the ceremony. Many thanks to all involved.
