CID Forum to relaunch as Gauteng Precinct Management Association
The Johannesburg CID Forum has until recently, existed as an initiative of the Johannesburg Inner City Partnership (JICP). With the intention of increasing the impact of the CID Forum, the decision was made by current members, to establish a new, not for profit company, the Gauteng Precinct Management Association (GPMA). Despite the change in name and the establishment of an independent board of Directors, the GPMA will function in the same way and offer the same services as the CID Forum.
The GPMA will continue to host monthly meetings, where managers from across the country share best practice when facing the challenges of urban management. Since the beginning of the COVID19 Lockdown, online meetings have provided a significant opportunity for international urban management practitioners to join these conversations.
The GPMA will continue to co-ordinate comments and feedback from the private sector on public sector initiatives. This includes regular input to Local Government Policy, strategy and budgets such as the submission of joint input to the Integrated Development Plan (IDP), the establishment of a Working Group working towards the implementation of the Special Rating Area (SRA) Policy and Bylaw, and additional programmes and projects through which the public and private sector are both working towards achieving improved urban management.
As an association, the GPMA will continue to work with the Precinct Management and Improvement District stakeholders Nationally and Internationally, including representing the Gauteng precinct management sector on the South African Precinct Management Initiative (SAPMI), which is a public/private forum aimed at putting in place a National Urban Management Policy.
The official launch of the GPMA will take place in August, when a Special General meeting will be held by the interim board of directors.
