SUMMARY:Gauteng Waterways Solutions Summit
DESCRIPTION:MULTI-STAKEHOLDER COLLABORATION FOR RIVER SYSTEM RECOVERY: \nUniting to Restore Gauteng’s Waterways through Evidence-based Innovation\, Responsibility and Action \nHYBRID EVENT \nThurs 28 August | 08h30 – 15h30 \nRegister HERE for in-person or online participation \n  \nGauteng’s river systems are facing an escalating crisis\, the result of multiple\, intersecting pressures including insufficiently treated wastewater\, industrial pollution and anthropogenic litter. While many stakeholders have contributed to understanding and addressing this complex challenge\, insights and efforts sometimes remain fragmented\, obscuring opportunities for recovery. \nThe Gauteng Waterways Solutions Summit will bring together researchers\, industries\, community-based organisations\, regulators\, manufacturers of products with packaging\, citizen scientists\, and NGOs in a shared effort to co-develop actionable pathways for river system recovery. \n\nIntegrate knowledge for a systems-level understanding of the challenges facing Gauteng’s waterways;\nShowcase innovative solutions and research-informed interventions;\nStrengthen multi-stakeholder collaboration\, especially with local industries and brand owners;\nLaunch a Community of Practice focused on data-sharing\, learning\, and scalable action.\n\nThis summit is a platform to engage key actors across sectors to play an active\, solutions-oriented role in restoring the province’s vital water systems. It provides a space to go beyond understanding the problem\, for the coordination and co-creation of lasting solutions\, that leverage local experience\, scientific knowledge\, existing and emerging solutions\, extended producer responsibility (EPR)\, and systems-level collaboration. \nThrough this collective effort\, we aim to catalyse a more resilient\, accountable and collaborative approach to waterway management in Gauteng\, one rooted in coordinated\, evidence-based action\, shared responsibility\, and long-term sustainability. \n
